Knight in Shining Armour for Rape Victim Arrives in the Form of Anon

Just recently, the whole of America was shocked when a cell of the Anonymous, a group of hackers associated with internet activism and vigilantism, called KnightSec uncovered a cover-up regarding a rape case allegedly committed by two members of the Big Red High School Football team. KnightSec has hacked into the accounts of those involved and released further evidence that would incriminate the suspects and further prove mishandling if not a cover-up of the case. This has sparked a number of protestors from across the nation in a movement dubbed as "Occupy Steubenville". Protests include people wearing the V for Vendetta masks and rape victims coming forward and sharing their story. After releasing a warning video towards those involved in the case to own up to their crimes, the group KnightSec released the uncovered evidence in a LocalLeaks page when no response was received from the perpetrators.

Here is the video:

This instance shows us how much the internet enabled people to be more involved in society and empowered people into vigilantism, whether for better or for worse. In this case, I think it is for the better. Without the initiative of KnightSec, justice may just be a far-fetched dream for the rape victim. Because of the strong collective behind this cause, the case has gathered national interest and might have been just quietly been swept under the rug if not for the online vigilantism. This isn't an isolated incident where the internet has become a very essential tool in bringing people together into a cause and ultimately effecting change.
